Bedford Park reverend, residents seek more drug enforcement

(09/21/10) BEDFORD PARK - A Bedford Park reverend and residents are asking for help, claiming their neighborhood has fallen prey to drugs.

Rev. John Jenik says his neighborhood is seriously lacking enforcement for the massive drug dealing that goes on there. He says over the last 30 years he has organized marches, vigils, protests and even placed crosses through the community to try and raise awareness and stop the drug deals. He says his efforts, for the most part, have been ignored.

Residents between 194th and 196th streets say they are living in fear because of the drug issues. Felicia Ross says she stays in her house to avoid trouble and has no choice but to keep her children off the streets.

The 52nd Precinct will be holding a council meeting on Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. to hear from community members.
