Study: NYC roads seventh worst in the nation
(09/22/10) THE BRONX - New York City roads are said to be the seventh worst roads in the nation.
TRIP, a national transportation research group, has found that more than 50 percent of Bronx roads are in poor condition. The roads are so bad the group says Bronx drivers are spending around $640 more a year on additional repairs to their vehicles.
Jerry Ramos, a mechanic at Jerome Mufflers, says he has seen it all. He says he's had vehicles come in on tow trucks because poor roads took out both of the vehicles' wheels. He says his cash-strapped customers are put in a bad position. "They gotta spend the money to fix the car, but the economy is bad so they wait until the last minute," said Ramos.
Bronx residents say they hope government agencies will shell out more cash to repair the roads so that they can stop spending money to repair their vehicles.
