Budget cuts force Columbus Day parade to shorten march

The parade will go on but city budget cuts have forced the borough?s Columbus Day celebration to take a shorter route.

The parade has been a Bronx fixture for 33 years. It typically begins at White Plains Road and Morris Park Avenue ending at Lydig Avenue and Williamsbridge Road. This year, the route will be cut three blocks short.

Merchants who own shops on the older route say they are disappointed the parade will not end in front of their businesses. The cuts went into effect April 1.
