Bloomberg urges 9/11 first responders to accept settlement

Mayor Michael Bloomberg is urging thousands of Sept. 11 first responders sickened by toxic dust after the attack to accept a proposed settlement.

Lawyers for nearly 10,000 workers reached a tentative agreement last spring. The settlement is worth between $625 and $712.5 million.

Bloomberg says 95 percent of the workers need to agree to the deal or it will end up back in court.

Individual compensations range from thousands of dollars to more than $1 million, depending on the severity of the person's illness.
