Riverdale residents complain of smoky boiler

Riverdale residents say they are concerned that they are breathing in toxic black smoke every day from a temporary trailer on their street.

The smoke is coming from a temporary boiler for the Hudson Pointe nursing home and neighbors say they have been breathing in the smoke for months.

Inspectors for the city?s Department of Environmental Protection issued two violations in September. Officials found the equipment to be unsafe and that it was contaminating the air. The nursing home's director says a new boiler system is ready to go and the temporary boiler and trailer will be gone by the end of the week.

The DEP says the trailer company will have to go in front of the Environmental Control Board this month to address the violations.
