BX family pleads for answers after hit-and-run

A Bronx family is pleading for answers after a hit-and-run accident left a man on life support.

According to officials, 58-year-old Aurelio Mercado was struck near Sagamore and Amethyst streets while walking home on Sept. 27. He was taken to Jacobi Medical Center where he remains in a coma, suffering severe brain damage.

Police say witnesses saw the driver of a white van or SUV get out of the car, look at Mercado and take off.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
