Witness comes forward in Bronx hit-and-run crash

An eyewitness has come forward in last month's hit-and-run crash that left a Bronx man in critical condition.

According to Jose Rivera, he was driving northbound on Amythest Avenue when a white van sped by his car and slammed into 57-year-old Aurielo Mercado on Sept. 27. He says the driver then jumped out to check on the victim.

Rivera says that once the ambulance arrived, the driver approached him and asked if he had seen the accident. He says he never thought the man would disappear.

Mercado remains in critical condition at Jacobi Medical Center. A $2,000 reward is being offered to anyone who has information that leads them to the driver.
