Defense wants victims in alleged anti-gay attack to be investigated

Eight of the 11 suspects accused in the Oct. 3 alleged anti-gay beatings in the Bronx were back in court today, where defense attorneys asked the prosecution to investigate the victims.

Police say the accused men, who are members of the Latin King Goonies, beat and sodomized three victims after learning that two of them, including a 17-year-old trying to join the gang, had sex with each other.

The defense attorneys are asking the prosecution to look into the role the victims may have played on the night of the attacks. All attorneys for the suspects also reserved their right to testify before a grand jury.

The prosecution has until Monday to present all of its evidence to the jury, which will then vote on whether to indict the men.
