Charges dropped against 3 in anti-gay attack

(AP) - Charges have been dropped against three of thesuspects accused of taking part in brutal anti-gay attacks in NewYork City on two men and two teens. Prosecutors said today there was insufficient evidence tocharge Steven Carabello, Bryan Almonte and Brian Cepeda in the Oct.3 attacks. They had been charged with robbery, gang assault andunlawful imprisonment. There were 11 people accused, and eightremain charged in the case. Authorities say a group of men calling themselves the Latin KingGoonies discovered one of their teen recruits was gay. Prosecutorssay they attacked him, then went after a 30-year-old man whosupposedly had a sexual encounter with the teen. Two others werealso attacked. Family members started crying and shouting when the charges weredropped.
