Women paint mural to raise awareness about domestic violence

A group of women have brightened up one part of Franklin Avenue in the Bronx with a mural containing a powerful message.

Lead artist Virginia Ayress says the mural painted on the wall of the Basics Bronx Addiction Services building is meant to raise awareness about domestic violence.

Ayress says the title of the mural was inspired by the poem "Yo Soy Mi Ruta," which means I am my own journey, by Julia Deburgos, a famous Puerto Rican poet.
