Police: Teen stabbed to death in Longwood

Police say they discovered the body today of a Bronx teenager who was stabbed to death six days ago in Longwood. According to officials, 17-year-old Luzbenet Ramirez was found inside her apartment at 575 Southern Blvd. Investigators say her body was wrapped in a plastic bag and stuffed in the closet.

Police have arrested 40-year-old Jose Mendez in connection with the stabbing. Investigators say Mendez stabbed Ramirez multiple times in the torso last Friday because he thought she was having an affair with his girlfriend.

News 12 The Bronx has also learned that Mendez was released from prison just hours before the attack. He had been serving time for assaulting his girlfriend and violating an order of protection.

He faces charges of murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.
