City lawmakers consider rules against cat callsPosted: Updated:
Local lawmakers are considering new rules that could make shouting a pick-up line on the street a crime.
Members of the City Council say a push to discourage cat calls started after a committee heard testimony from women saying men regularly yell at them and make them feel unsafe.
Many residents say the cat calls are freedom of speech, but others disagree and say the remarks are a form of sexual harassment.
Lawmakers say they are open to many enforcement ideas, including a campaign against cat calling, putting up signage and enforcing summonses.
