2 manhole explosions rattle parts of Bronxwood

Two manhole explosions rattled parts of Bronxwood today, shutting down White Plains Road during the morning rush hour.

Firefighters arriving on the scene say they found one manhole burning, but just 15 minutes later the second one blew, sending its 150-pound cover flying through the air.

According to Con Edison, the explosions could be caused by bad wiring, an old transformer or the rain. Crews say they're going to take out old electrical equipment and replace it.

EMS says one person was taken to Jacobi Medical Center with minor injuries.
