Yellow cab owners want to raise rates

Owners of yellow cabs have filed papers with the Taxi and Limousine Commission asking to increase rates.Under the proposal, the pickup fare would go up 50 cents, from $2.50 to $3. The meter fare would also increase from 40 cents per fifth of a mile to 40 cents per sixth of a mile.Yellow cab owners also want the flat rate from John F. Kennedy International Airport raised from $47 to $53. Waiting and other surcharges would remain the same.If approved, the rate increases will not go into effect until at least next year.
