Gov.-elect Cuomo opposes 9/11 trial in New YorkPosted: Updated:
(AP) - New York Gov.-elect Andrew Cuomo says he'sagainst trying the professed mastermind of the Sept. 11 terrorattacks in his state.
The Democrat addressed the matter for the first time in aninterview with radio host John Gambling on Thursday, a day afterAttorney General Eric Holder said the Obama administration wasclose to deciding where to prosecute Khalid Sheik Mohammed.
Cuomo simply said "no" when asked for his opinion aboutwhether Mohammed should be tried in New York. When asked if hewould fight to keep the trial away, Cuomo said yes.
Cuomo had refrained from weighing in on the issue during thegovernor's race.
New York Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer, along withNew York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, also oppose a civilian trialin New York for Mohammed.
