Hunts Point retailers get in holiday shopping mode

Hunts Point retailers are eagerly awaiting what they expect will be a robust Christmas shopping season.

Tony Stavrakas, who manages a Conway store in the area, is getting his employees into the Christmas spirit early in hopes of luring as many customers as possible. Stavrakas says a recent City Council proposal to turn a local BP station into a small strip mall would also help by increasing the number of stores in Hunts Point.

"The more stores in the area, the more people it brings - and that helps everybody," Stavrakas says.

The strip mall is expected to generate 200 jobs if approved.
