NYPD to identify suspects with new iris scanners
The New York Police Department is implementing technology that can identify crime suspects with a simple blink of the eye.
The department says its new iris scanners can take a picture of an eye and store the image in a police database. The system is designed to prevent criminals from posing as someone else.
The new technology carries a hefty price tag of $500,000 and was paid for by a grant from the Department of Homeland Security.
