String of burglaries target BX churches

Police are investigating a string of burglaries that have targeted religious buildings in the Bronx this week.

Investigators say the latest incident occurred at St. Ann's church on Bainbridge Avenue, where a window was smashed and money was swiped from the collection box.

Police say Our Lady of Angels School on Clafin Avenue was also hit this week. A pastor there said a laptop and $500 from a nun's desk were stolen, and filing cabinets containing student records were ransacked.

Officials also reported two more break-ins at other Kingsbridge churches. Money was stolen from the collection box at St. John's church, and Kingsbridge Evangelical Lutheran Church on Bailey Avenue was also broken into, although nothing was missing, according to investigators.

Police have not confirmed whether the incidents are related but are urging anyone with information to call Crimestoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
