Prosecutors: 2 anti-gay hate crime suspects actually victims
Two teenagers accused of participating in an anti-gay hate crime were actually victims of the incident, according to prosecutors.
Authorities dropped charges against Bryan Almonte and Brian Cepeda several weeks ago. They were arrested with nine others after the Oct. 3 attacks. The 17-year-olds had been charged with gang assault and assault as a hate crime.
Officials say a group of men calling themselves the Latin King Goonies discovered one of their teen recruits was gay. Prosecutors say they attacked him and then went after a 30-year-old man who supposedly had a sexual encounter with the teen.
Prosecutors say members of the Latin King Goonies beat, threatened and robbed six victims in total.
