12,000 BX residents brace for end of unemployment benefits

More than 12,000 out-of-work Bronx residents are preparing for the loss of their jobless benefits as an unemployment-insurance extension is set to expire Tuesday.

Some of those who will be affected are heading to Work Force One on 149th Street, a place which has become a mecca for the borough?s unemployed. The center gets 400 people each day looking for job applications to fill out.

The center offers recruitment fairs and job banks, as well as access to faxes and phones to contact hiring managers directly.
