State Sen. Espada, son indicted on embezzlement charges
Democrat Sen. Pedro Espada and his son Pedro were indicted on six charges of embezzlement today.
New York and federal officials say that the two embezzled over $500,000 from their Bronx-based Soundview Health Center for personal use.
The indictment claims that Espada used $49,000 from a Soundview subsidiary as a down payment on a $125,000 Bentley and spent $14,000 in tickets for sports and shows.
Espada has also been stripped of his majority leader title and removed as chair of the Senate Housing Committee following his indictment.
