Plan for Wakefield homeless shelter in hands of Defense Dept.

The fate of a controversial plan to bring a homeless shelter to Wakefield is now in the hands of the Department of Defense.

The plan calls for placing the shelter in the Muller Army Reserve Center, but Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. and local community members are trying to block the plan.

The Department of Defense will now decide whether the center will become a shelter or a site for the National Guard.
