Popular Bronx priest found guilty of sexual abuse
A popular Bronx priest has been found guilty of sexual abuse by a church court and dismissed from the clergy.
Msgr. Charles Kavanaugh, of St. Raymond's Church, has been found guilty of committing acts of sexual abuse against a minor during an incident that allegedly happened in the 1970s.
New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan released a statement saying he would like to apologize to "all those who have been harmed by the sin and crime of sexual abuse, and in particular to apologize to the gentleman who was the victim in this case."
Kavanaugh's alleged victim sent a letter to the archdiocese in 2002, and it took nearly nine years to go through the appeals process.
However, Kavanaugh's sister and his attorney claim the cleric did not get due process.
Today would have marked Kavanaugh's 47th anniversary of becoming a priest.
