Dozens homeless after Grand Concourse apartment fire

Dozens of people are left without a home days before Christmas after a fire charred an apartment building on the Grand Concourse and East 177th Street.

Seven residents suffered minor injuries as 140 firefighters battled the flames for almost two hours yesterday, officials said. The injured were taken to Lincoln Hospital or Bronx-Lebanon Hospital.

Most residents are staying at a temporary shelter at the Mount Hope Community Center. Many say they are emotional after having lost so much just days before Christmas.
