Construction worker dies after collapsing at Botanical Garden site

Officials say a construction worker at a Botanical Garden construction site has died after contractors say he suddenly fell ill and collapsed this afternoon.

Antonio Scalisi was an employee of Civetta Construction and worked at the Botanical Garden site for about six months. He was taken to Montefiore Medical Center after the collapse, where officials say he was later pronounced dead.

A spokesperson from the Botanical Garden says the Department of Buildings and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) found no indication that there was any construction-related activities that led to Scalisi's death.

Investigators say they are scheduled to return to the site on Monday for a follow-up visit.
