1 dead in Webster Ave. shooting

Police say a young Bronx man who had been acquitted of murder charges in 2009 was gunned down outside his home last night.

According to authorities, Michael Ikoli, 26, was found shot in the head and back on Webster Avenue and 188th Street. He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officials say Ikoli was freed from Rikers Island in 2009, after spending five years waiting for a trial due to backlogs in the system. News 12 The Bronx was at the family's home that Christmas to talk with them after Ikoli's release.

Police say an investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made. Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
