Family of 5 forced out of home by 2-alarm fire

A family of five narrowly escaped a two-alarm fire in Wakefield this morning.

The fire erupted at around 6 a.m. in the driveway of 833 Penfield St. While the residents of the house were sleeping, a car in the driveway caught on fire.

Neighbors who spotted the flames ran over and pounded on the door of the house, alerting the family. All five residents escaped unharmed.

Firefighters who arrived on the scene extinguished the flames in a matter of minutes.

Two of the responding firefighters sustained minor injuries, but are expected to recover.
