Parents: Keep Kingsbridge school open
Parents in Kingsbridge are fighting to keep a local school open.
The parents rallied today outside Kingsbridge Innovative Design Charter School on West 231st Street, demanding that it be kept open after the state Education Department recommended it be shuttered.
The state DOE says the school "has not demonstrated sufficient capacity to operate in a fiscally and educationally sound and responsible manner." They point to a number of alleged issues, including failure to demonstrate sufficient cash flow to sustain operations for May and June.
The school's executive director, Julio Cotto, says things are now on the right track and it deserves to stay open.
"Parents continue to get more engaged, the curriculum is now as it should be," says Cotto. "The board secured the financing and some outstanding grants have started to come in."
