Firefighter injured in 5-alarm fire near Boston Road

FDNY officials say a firefighter was injured in a massive fire at 595 East 167 St. near Boston Road this afternoon.

Officials say it took more than 200 firefighters to extinguish the fire that started on the sixth floor of the apartment building.

The smoke spread throughout the neighborhood quickly, forcing nearby Morris Academy to hold a rapid dismissal for students.

Officials say the firefighter suffered minor injuries and is expected to be OK. They say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
