City puts the brakes on speed limits
Several roads in the Bronx may soon lower their speed limits from 30 mph to 20 mph.
The change is part of a city and United Nations initiative to drive down traffic fatalities and injuries. Called the 'Decade of Action for Road Safety,' the program will begin piloting the new speed limit in the Bronx this summer.
The area from 174th Street to the north, 167th Street to the south, Southern Boulevard to the West and Boone Avenue to the East will be part of the pilot program. The area was chosen because it has a high risk for accidents and also has several schools aroudn the area.
