City Dept. of Health wants to ban 'alco-pop' from bodega shelvesPosted: Updated:
The New York City Department of Health is proposing a ban limiting the sale of alcoholic malt beverages from bodegas.
The drinks, especially those sold in bright-colored cans and loaded with sugars, also known as "alco-pop," are enticing to minors, according to officials.
The ban would limit the sale of the drinks to liquor stores.
The ban must be passed the State Legislature before it can become law.
Officials say that two out of every five children that start drinking before age 15 will become dependent on alcohol sometime in their lifetime.
