BX special-needs students nearly done with mural projectPosted: Updated:
Special-needs students from a Bronx high school are nearing completion of a months-long mural project.
The students, from P721X, are working at the AHRC building on Bronx Boulevard. The AHRC center helps train students with developmental and intellectual disabilities for employment. Stephen Epstein, a teacher in charge of the mural project, says his students have not only learned about art, but have taken on skills that will help them in their daily routines.
Epstein says he is grateful to the school's principal and administration for supporting the art work-study program. He says the mural is one of several painted over the years.
Today marked one of the group's final classes before summer vacation. Epstein says a summer school class will put the finishing touches on the project.
