Groups advocate testing in honor of World AIDS Day
In recognition of World AIDS Day, groups in The Bronx are urging residents to get tested for HIV and be informed about how to obtain treatment if they test positive.
The Bronx Community Health Network says on World AIDS Day, its emphasis is on education and testing.
Between June and January of last year, the New York City Department of Health says The Bronx ranked third among the five boroughs with 356 new HIV cases reported.
Even though more people may be getting tested for HIV, statistics also show that more people are neglecting treatment after testing positive - another reason why the Health Network says awareness about treatment is important.
