Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) is calling on a stricter law to protect child athletes from school sex abuse in the wake of two university scandals.

Public school teachers are currently required to report any suspected child abuse directly to police, but the same is not required for high school and college coaches. Cuomo says he wants that to change.

The proposed legislation comes after former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky was charged with sexually abusing boys on campus. Former Syracuse University basketball coach and Brooklyn native Bernie Fine was fired and is under federal investigation after three men accused him of molestation.

Former Penn State head coach Joe Paterno was also fired because school officials say he didn't do enough to report and investigate Sandusky's abuse allegations.
