Parkchester synagogue closes so school can expandPosted: Updated:
While the book may have closed for Temple Emanuel after it shuttered for good yesterday, a new chapter is beginning for a Bronx school in need of expansion.
The temple closed yesterday to make way for an expansion of the Bronx Charter School of Excellence.
The synagogue, which had been part of the community for more than 60 years, cited dwindling membership and finances in the decision to sell the building.
While many members are sad to see the synagogue go, they know its spirit will continue in the community.
