Obama urges Congress to pass transportation billPosted: Updated:
(AP) - President Barack Obama is pressing Congress topass the transportation part of his stalled jobs bill - $50 billionfor roads and bridges.
It also includes $10 billion to attract private money to helpfinance such construction.
Obama says it "makes absolutely no sense" that constructionworkers are sitting around idle when there's work to be done.
The Senate is expected to vote Thursday on whether to take upthe $50 billion transportation measure.
Senate Republicans blocked action on the larger bill overobjections to Obama's request for more federal spending and a taxon millionaires to help pay for it.
Obama spoke at the Key Bridge, which connects the District ofColumbia and Virginia across the Potomac River. The government saysthe bridge needs crucial repairs and maintenance.
