Morris Park Ave. businesses try to recover after water main break
Business owners along Morris Park Avenue are recovering from a water main break yesterday that shut down their water supply. Nearly 20 businesses were temporarily shut down when a pipe, which Department of Environmental Protection officials say dates back to the 1920s, exploded. Two blocks had to be shut down when the streets began flooding at around 11 a.m. Water was restored overnight, but some owners say they lost thousands of dollars in business. "We were supposed to have service since this morning," says hair salon owner Eva Rodriguez. "And we don't have hot water." Residents in the area were also affected by the burst, and say the city needs to fix aging pipes.
