Jury selection begins in corruption trial of BX councilman
Jury selection began today in the corruption trial of Bronx Councilman Larry Seabrook (D-District 12).
According to federal prosecutors, Seabrook received $50,000 for influencing a subcontract at the new Yankee Stadium. They say he also swayed $1 million to his own charities to benefit friends and family.
Seabrook, who has served the borough for a decade, faces federal charges on a total of 13 different counts, including fraud related to the FDNY's diversity initiative and the City Council's job placement program.
The councilman could get up to 235 years in prison if convicted.
