NYPD report: Number of police-involved shootings down across city

The latest NYPD firearm discharge report shows that police used their guns the least amount of times since records began being kept 40 years ago.

According to the report, there were 92 incidents where an officer discharged their weapon in 2010, of which 33 involved a suspect.

The report also shows that fatal shootings involving police was at its lowest level since 1971.

The Bronx saw 21 percent of the 33 police-involved shootings last year, according to the report.

Officials say that the reduction in shootings is due to better training, greater restraint by officers and an overall reduction in crime.
