Police: Woman found dead in Highbridge

Police say a mother of four was found dead in Highbridge early this morning with severe trauma to the head.

According to authorities, 34-year-old Shanetta Fernandez was discovered at around 3 a.m. in her apartment on 168th Street near Nelson Avenue.

The victim's sister, Shanetta Fernandez, says a family friend found the woman's body lying on the bed with her face swollen. EMS crews say the 34-year-old was already dead by the time they arrived on the scene.

Fernandez's relatives told News 12 The Bronx that they believe she was murdered by her boyfriend, whom they say they have never trusted.

Fernandez, who was a stay-at-home mom, leaves behind three daughters and a son between the ages of 4 and 14.

So far, no arrests have been made. Investigators say they have a suspect in mind, but won't release any names. Anyone with information is being asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
