Judge delays ruling on fate of embattled Soundview clinic

Posted: Updated:

The judge overseeing the fate of the embattled Soundview Health Center, founded by former state Sen. Pedro Espada, Jr., has delayed making his ruling by two weeks.

The Medicaid inspector general wants the facility's Medicaid license revoked after then-Attorney General Andrew Cuomo charged Espada with using the clinic as his personal piggy bank.

The clinic says Espada is not involved in the day-to-day operations of the facility and the clinic's closure would cause a health emergency for about 20,000 Bronx residents who rely upon the services it provides.

The judge says that by delaying his ruling, he hopes the two sides can continue to negotiate and an agreement can be reached.
