BX residents celebrate legacy of Celia Cruz

Posted: Updated:

Residents throughout The Bronx are celebrating the legacy of music icon Celia Cruz, whose birthday is less than two weeks away.

At Woolworth Cemetery in Woodlawn, many came out this weekend to dance to Cruz's legendary salsa beats, while students from the Celia Cruz High School of Music provided vocals.

Fans say it's important to remember her life and the positive effect she's had on the borough and Latin community.

Another event will be held on Cruz's birthday, Oct. 20.
