Police probe death of 13-month-old baby in Longwood

Police are investigating the death of a 13-month-old baby at an apartment at 73 Southern Blvd. in Longwood.

According to police, they responded to a call at 8 a.m. Friday morning to find Edwin Perocier Jr. unconscious and unresponsive. They say the child was given a bottle of pills to play with as a rattle and the child may have somehow opened the bottle and swallowed some of the pills.

Officers say the 13-month-old was rushed to Lincoln Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

Officials say the investigation into the incident is ongoing. Medical examiners have not released a cause of death.
