Livery drivers make push for new alert system

Posted: Updated:

The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers is pushing for new legislation that would require the NYPD to release photos of suspected livery robbers within hours of the crime.

The group says it wants an alert system that connects livery companies with local police precincts. They say the technology already exists because most cabs are equipped with cameras and a hard drive.

The federation is stepping up efforts to keep cabbies safe after another livery driver was robbed at gunpoint last week. It hopes that by immediately informing drivers and the public of suspected robbers, it will be easier to catch the criminals.
