City budget cuts endangering BX after-school programsPosted: Updated:
Some Bronx residents say they are displeased with budget cuts that have removed programs from their children's after-school schedules. According to the Children's Aid Society, a non-profit organization that runs citywide extracurricular activities, around 46,000 students are currently enrolled in after-school programs across the five boroughs, down from 86,000 in 2009. Officials at C.S. 61 in Morrisania say their school lost its basketball and tutoring funding. Tonight, students from two other Bronx schools will head to the school for an event aimed at drawing attention to after-school planning.
