MTA tests waste reduction with fewer trash cans

The Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) is conducting an experiment to see if fewer trash cans will reduce the amount of refuse it picks up at subway stations.

Transit officials say they have more garbage than they can handle at all 468 stations.

The MTA hopes that a lack of receptacles will force people to take their trash above ground.
