Bronx launching new scoop the poop campaign

Posted: Updated:

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. is teaming up with the Department of Sanitation to launch a new initiative aimed at getting dog owners to clean up after their pets.

The "Don't be a Pooper-Traitor" public awareness campaign will remind Bronx residents to scoop the poop or face a fine of up to $250. Residents on Decatur Avenue say that dog feces is a growing problem that makes their neighborhood look bad and could spread disease.

Officials say they'll be working to get the word out about the law and will be increasing patrols to catch negligent owners throughout the borough.
