Runners oppose proposal to pave Van Cortlandt Park trail
The Putnam Trail in Van Cortlandt Park may be up for some remodeling and many Bronx runners say they aren't too happy about it.
Many runners competing in today's Labor Day marathon are also signing 1,000 letters to Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. and Mayor Michael Bloomberg, calling on the officials to stop plans to pave over the trail and turn it into a 12-foot roadway.
The city?s Department of Parks and Recreation says it is trying to make the trail more accessible to cyclists.
Some runners say while they don't agree with the proposal, they are willing to compromise with a stone/dust surface.
