P.S. 51 teachers prep for first day of classes

Posted: Updated:

P.S. 51 teachers are preparing for the first day of school tomorrow after moving to a new building just one month ago.

Last month, city officials told parents and teachers they had to move the school because the original building on Jerome Avenue had high levels of a toxin called TCE. The new building is 2 miles away in the old St. Martin of Tours School.

Faculty gathered today with United Federation of Teachers President Michael Mulgrew to discuss a plan to set up a health monitoring process for the staff. Teachers said they could not confirm if any faculty member has become ill because of the toxin.
