Antelope absconds temporarily from Bronx Zoo

Posted: Updated:

A Kudu, or African Antelope, made a daring, albeit short, escape from the Bronx Zoo yesterday afternoon.

The antelope somehow managed to escape its enclosure and was spotted by Andrew Lichtenstein, a professional photographer, in a wooded area.

"The animal was obviously scared and running back and forth in the shrubbery," says Lichtenstein.

Zookeepers were able to open a gate to an exhibit and the antelope walked right back in on its own, according to Lichtenstein.

Before the antelope returned, Lichtenstein was able to take a number of photos of the animal in something far from its natural habitat.

This is the third animal escape from the zoo in the past year after a peahen and cobra both escaped their enclosures.
